Your sense of fashion is more than picking out an outfit in the morning - it's an expression of your personality, and a reflection of who you are.

Students from all over the world come to London to study, many of them coming from America which is just across the pond.

Alongside adapting to a new culture in a different country, students also find themselves adjusting to a new style. When it comes to a sense of style, you do not want to be just like everybody else, but you also do not want to stick out like a tourist.

Fordham student Chloe Marcom speaks on how moving to London has changed and shaped her view on fashion.

“The fashion scene in London is effortlessly chic but individualistic. In the US, it is much more common to wear athleisure wear to any occasion whereas in London it is a norm to dress much more professional during day-to-day activities.”

Americans tend to take more of a lazy approach to their style, caring less about how they look when they run out of the house to grab a coffee.

Most Americans prefer to wear a sweat set, and sneakers rather than taking on the London look which often consists of jeans and a trench coat.

However, this does not mean Londoners don't prioritize comfort, they just take a different approach than the Americans.

“Comfort is important as well in London due to the high amounts of walking. I think people here prioritize comfort with their shoe choice,” Marcom states after adjusting to her new lifestyle.

As London study abroad, students get ready to head back to their home country. They may find themselves wondering if their style has changed since being in Europe.

Marcom definitely thinks she found her individual style here in London.

“Yes, I think British Fashion has helped me lean into my individualistic style and has helped me step outside of my comfort zone. Whether it is accessories or a blouse that I never would've picked up in a store, fashion here has influenced me to step outside of the box. Thrifting has had a large influence on me as well.” Marcom states.

Thrifting! That is something that Marcom has found a passion for in London. She often finds herself roaming around the Charity shops.

“Charity Shops in London are a great way to dip your toes in the city's fashion scene in a secondhand shopping environment.”

While it is important not to dress just like everyone else in London, it is important to learn about your individual style.

Fashion is fun and style is personality. No matter where you are in the world, it is important to always find a sense of style that makes you, you!
